Music Books
Every teacher at Resonant Blooms uses a combination of different method books so that we can offer a wholistic music education. We also offer our own materials that we’ve developed in house! You’ll be able to access some of these soon in our online store.
We’ve compiled some of the most commonly recommended books here, with links so that you can find them easily for purchase at either a brick and mortar store, or an online retailer. Do not purchase anything until your teacher directs you to do so - we don’t want you buying something that we won’t use.
Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber
This tried and true method book series has hung around for multiple editions, and is trusted by music teachers the world over. It is multiple award winning, comprehensive and has both fun original songs and a companion series of graded popular and classical music.
Wunderkeys by Andrea and Trevor Dow
New comers to the scene, WunderKeys is in a class of its own. The books include pedagogically sound approaches, logically sequenced activities, and perfectly paced repertoire that makes teaching piano lessons simply wonderful. We have loved exploring this Canadian addition to piano method books.
Method Without the Madness by Jack Comeau
Our very own Jack Comeau authored this revolutionary guitar method book! Including over 100 exercises and recognizable tunes, Jack Comeau's Guitar Method is a step-by-step approach to reading the notes of the guitar in first position. Jack draws on decades of teaching experience by using dozens and dozens of familiar tunes to make the learning process enjoyable for everyone - students, teachers, and audiences.
The Royal Conservatory of Music
The Royal Conservatory is one of the largest and most respected music education institutions in the world, and they offering excellent curriculum design and standarized assessment. While we do not have a focus on RCM at Resonant Blooms, students who are motivated to pursue this path are welcome here.
The Hal Leonard Guitar Method has stood the test of time through many editions. It’s a comprehensive approach including songs, technique, music reading, chords, and musical concepts to help students develop their skills while making music from the very beginning. It’s a flexible method that works well for beginners and can be adapted to suit each student’s interests and goals.
