Fee Explanation
One of the most common questions I get is, “How do the monthly lesson fees work?” It’s a good question! Our fees can look a little different from studios that charge per lesson, so here’s a quick explanation of how we calculate them.
Tuition is based on the whole school year
At Resonant Blooms, tuition is based on the total number of lessons your student will receive between September and June, rather than charging a different amount each month.
For a standard school year, we schedule 32 lessons from September through June. We then divide the total annual tuition into 11 equal monthly payments.
This means your monthly payment stays the same throughout the year, even though the actual number of lessons may vary from month to month.
In other words:
Number of lessons × lesson fee = annual tuition
Annual tuition ÷ 11 = monthly payment
This approach makes budgeting easier for families and allows us to account for holidays, professional development days, studio closures, and other breaks without changing your monthly payment.
Why are there 11 payments for 10 months of lessons?
Lessons take place from September through June, but tuition is divided into 11 instalments to make the payments smaller and more manageable.
The first payment is due at registration (or August 1, whichever comes first), followed by monthly payments through June 1.
The number of payments doesn't represent the number of months of lessons—it's simply the payment schedule we use to spread the annual tuition evenly throughout the year.
What if we start partway through the year?
No problem! If you join Resonant Blooms after the school year has started, your tuition is prorated based on the number of lessons remaining in the school year.
Your invoice will show the adjusted amount and payment schedule for your start date. If you're joining partway through the year, your first payment may be a little higher as we bring your payment schedule up to date.
What if there are holidays or missed lessons?
Your tuition is based on the annual lesson schedule, not on the number of lessons in a particular month. Studio holidays and scheduled breaks are already taken into account when we create the yearly schedule.
If a lesson needs to be missed or rescheduled on our account, our studio policies outline how we handle that.
How can I pay?
You have three options for paying tuition:
Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) — monthly payments are automatically withdrawn from your bank account.
Post-dated cheques — one cheque for each monthly instalment.
One annual e-transfer — the full year's tuition can be paid in a single e-transfer.
Payment details and deadlines are outlined in your registration contract.
Why do we do it this way?
Running a music studio involves much more than the time spent in the lesson itself. Your tuition helps support the planning, administration, communication, resources, studio space, and other work that goes into creating a consistent and supportive learning experience throughout the year.
Most importantly, you aren't paying for a certain number of lessons each month—you're enrolling in a full year of music education. The monthly payment simply makes that annual commitment easier to manage.
If you ever have questions about your specific fee schedule, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm always happy to walk you through it.
